Level 100: Inside Financial Services Curriculum

The Inside Financial Services Curriculum provides the necessary industry fundamentals for sales professionals with limited knowledge or experience in the financial services industry. The curriculum is comprised of 6 courses each focusing on a different aspect of the financial services industry. This web-based program allows users to select the course(s) that reflect their specific areas of interest and responsibilities. For example, learners can focus on all the financial services industry segments, or they may decide to focus on only one of the segments (banking, capital markets or insurance). In addition, users can select a global or US only perspective when learning about the industry. This allows learners to tailor the training to their specific needs and interest.

In addition to providing a solid learning base to build on, Inside Financial Services also serves as an excellent just-in-time reference tool for learners who want to review their industry knowledge before contacting a new customer. Upon completing Inside Financial Services participants will be able to:

Discuss the fundamentals of the financial services industry (customers, products and services, deliver channels, risks, how institutions make money)
Identify the key lines of business within a financial institution (e.g., retail banking, investment management, corporate finance, wholesale banking, life insurance, non-life insurance)
Discuss and comprehend terminology that is commonly used by industry professionals

There is a test of completion at the end of the course, a full glossary of terms and the course qualifies for CPE credit.

To increase comprehension, each course within Inside Financial Services is organized in short, discreet modules. The estimated time to complete each of the six courses ranges from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on the particular course and the level of depth chosen by the learner.

Each course is organized around the following content areas to ensure consistency among the courses:

Customers – Customer types, customer financial needs and what those customers value. This sets the focus for each module.
Institutions – The types of institutions that serve customer needs.
Products and Services – Products/services offered to customers in this segment.
Delivery Channels – The methods institutions use to deliver products/services to customers.
Managing Risks - Identification of risks institutions face and how they are managed.
Making Money – Revenues and expenses incurred in serving customers and delivering products/services.
Current Issues – Hot issues affecting this segment.
